You could wait a couple of minutes to see if you fully rez into your avatar of choice. If that doesn't work, try logging out and logging back in again.
More info and advice to check out...

Assuming this is not related to your preferred appearance in Second Life, being an unwitting ghost could be due to a couple of different issues:
1. If you've logged in or teleported to a new location and all you see is a ghosty blob where your avatar should be, you're probably just experiencing some lag. It's possible that everyone around you sees you just fine, but things are rendering slowly on your end. If this is a common issue, you might want to make sure you're plugged directly into your high-speed Internet access. Sometimes things rez slower when you're on a wireless connection.
2. If you didn't log out properly (i.e., the Region or your computer crashed), other Residents may be treated to visions of your avatar's ghost. Spooky! A truly "ghosted avatar" is when you see another Resident's avatar but they aren't really there—you may even be able to walk through them. Waiting a few minutes usually remedies the situation. If you're still having issues after waiting a bit, send in a ticket and the Support Lindens can release your avatar's troubled spirit and you should be good to go.
Q: I just logged into the new Viewer, and I'm a cloud. What happened? A: Looks like lag! If all you see is a ghosty blob where your avatar should be, you're probably just experiencing some lag. Things may be rendering slowly on your end, but others may see you just fine. If this is a frequent issue, try using a wired high-speed Internet connection rather than WiFi. And if you can right-click yourself and select My Appearance, then going into Appearance Mode and back out again can assist you in rendering fully.
You also appear as a cloud when some information about you gets lost on the way from one place to another. However, you are not stuck this way permanently! See the following steps for help on restoring yourself to normal:
1. From your main menu, click Edit > Preferences > Graphics tab. 2. Slide the Quality & Performance slider to a lower setting. 3. Check the box next to Custom on the Graphics tab. 4. Move the Draw distance slider to the left. 5. Slide the Mesh Details sliders to Low. 6. Avatar Impostors is checked by default. If you have unchecked it, activate that feature again.
Additional helpful techniques:
● Log out and restart Second Life (relog). ● Right-click yourself, select Appearance, do NOT save anything, and click Close.
If those don't work, try the following process:
1. Access and wear a default avatar. 2. Re-wear your normal shape, skin, clothes, and attachments. This step is much easier if you are using a pre-existing saved outfit, but remember not to save anything before your avatar is restored!.
■ Sometimes in Second Life, the simulator has not completely sent the minimum Appearance information to your computer about what an avatar should look like. In previous versions, this meant the avatar would look like a gray, female model made of clay ("Ruth").
■ This usually only lasts a few moments, while the server is delivering the essential information: an avatar's shape, chest-texture, and waist-texture.
■ In rare cases, if the server is misperforming, sometimes the Cloud won't ever acquire the essential Appearance information and stays a cloud for a long time.
Rebaking your avatar's textures is a workaround to resolve common problems with your avatar's appearance, including parts from the Second Life user interface or even other programs appearing on your avatar's body and clothes. Other times, your avatar may be covered in glitchy stripes, appear totally black, and soforth. These defects are visible to other people, and rebaking is a good first step on the troubleshooting path.
The fix for missing textures on your avatar, which usually everyone can see but you (the white pyjamas syndrome). Press Control/Alt/D (letter D, not Delete) to obtain the Client Menu at the top of your screen, then choose Character... Rebake Textures. Finally go in and out of the Appearances Menu by right clicking on your avatar. This usually clears the problem and makes the textures on your clothes visible again.
If you go to the club at Wild & Crazy Coconut, they have a deruthing object you can touch to clear visible cache. It's on the right side of the dance floor (wooden part, not the pool part). Sometimes works

Here's a summary of a variety of possible solutions culled from Forums and Wikis:

✔ Got to a club with a "clear visible cache" or "deruthing" object and Touch it.
♣ Force a reload with Ctrl-Alt-R (Advanced >> Character >> Rebake Character) or by going into Appearance mode. ♣ Try increasing your bandwidth setting in Preferences. ♣ Turn off things that may be stealing bandwidth (like your e-mail program, your browser, etc.). ♣ Avoid using wireless.
♠ Reset your modem and router.
✸ If you are an Emerald user, try installing and logging in with a Linden/Second Life viewer like Viewer 2.
✚ Clear the cache in the network tab in Preferences. ✚ Restart the viewer then wait for it to clear, this will take a little time, it should start automatically when it is done. ✚ Don't forget to press apply then OK when your done.
☛ Advanced > Character > Character Test > Test Female (or Male)
✑ Clear your cache. ✑ Ctrl+P for Preferences > networks > push the button > Apply > OK. ✑ Restart the view (logoff) ✑ Wait. It will restart automatically when it has been cleared.
These seem to be the ones most commonly suggested to try first before hunkering down for a long session of trial-and-error troubleshooting or contacting Second Life Support.

✈ Teleport to a quiet location.
♥ Change your bald base, change your skin, change your clothes. Something you haven't worn in a while so it's not in in your cache would probably be best.
✑ Clear your cache. ✑ Ctrl+P for Preferences > networks > push the button > Apply > OK. ✑ Restart the view (logoff) ✑ Wait. It will restart automatically when it has been cleared.
▼ The problem can be anywhere in your computer, your modem and router, or the Internet. You can check each of those methodically to find out. In the short term, you can sometimes force a reload with Ctrl-Alt-R (that's Advanced >> Character >> Rebake Character -- or by going into Appearance mode. You can also try increasing your bandwidth setting in Preferences and, of course, you can turn off things that may be stealing bandwidth (like your e-mail program, your browser, etc.) and avoid using wireless.
▲ Clear your cache. Path is preferences > networks > push the button > Apply > OK . restart the view (logoff) > wait, it will restart automatically when it has been cleared.
❐ Are you able to see your avatar okay and everyone else sees it as a cloud? If that's the case, try lowering your maximum bandwidth on the network tab in preferences. I wandered around for about two weeks as a cloud until someone suggested this to me. It worked!
◘ Try switching back and forth between viewers.
♠ Open SL viewer, but not login. Press Control+shift+G, you will see a new field at the right of the login button. There will se the default "agni" region. Click de arrow and select Aditi, the viewer will change, it is normal no worries. Once you are in-world, do not do anything, do not open more than your inventory and go to recent items and just wait until everything load. Then, just quit SL and relog, change Aditi by Agni to log in normal mode.
♥ Clear your cache.
Viewer 2: Open Me > Preferences > Setup and click the Reset button at the heading Cache Location. Then close and reopen.
Viewer 1.23: Open Edit > Preferences > Network and click the Clear Cache button.
Click the Recent tab to speed up your Inventory loading after clearing cache and logging in.
To speed it up super quick, type e in the Inventory tab Search box and press enter. Wait till inventory loading slows down noticeably then clear the e and type t and press enter. Do the same for a. By this time your inventory should be fully loaded or very close in about 30 seconds (for an inventory of 10,000 or so items). Those letters are the three most frequently used letters in the English language followed by o, i and s.
♣ Move up the particle count in preferences in the graphics tab. The advanced settings will need to be enabled. Then you will be a cloud. clear your cache to remove the cloud.
